In December 2025, we spent three days at Radisson Collection Hotel, Basilica Budapest, in one of the most atmospheric locations we could have chosen for a Christmas city break. The hotel sits right by the Christmas market at St. Stephen’s Basilica, meaning that every time we stepped outside, we found ourselves in the middle of the festivities — both during the day and after dark.

Our stay was a mix of beautiful festive surroundings, a comfortable room, wonderful rooftop views and a few service details that could have been better. Here is our first-hand DuoEscape review.

1. Location: Right at Budapest's Christmas Market

Location was the real highlight. The Christmas market outside St. Stephen’s Basilica was practically on our doorstep. We could walk out, explore the festive stalls and lights, and return to our room whenever we wanted — without having to plan transport or make a special journey into the centre.

During our three-day stay, this made Budapest feel especially easy to explore. The atmosphere was lively both day and night, and the Basilica square was a beautiful backdrop to our Christmas getaway.

2. Our Room: Spacious and Comfortable

Our room was fairly spacious and the bed was particularly comfortable. After walking around Budapest in December, it was lovely to return to somewhere warm and relaxing.

We did encounter an issue at check-in: the minibar had not been properly restocked and prepared. We reported this to reception, but unfortunately it was never corrected during our stay. While this was not a major problem, it was disappointing given the hotel’s positioning and our expectation that small housekeeping issues would be resolved once reported.

3. Christmas Decorations and the Lobby Bar

The lobby looked beautiful during the Christmas season. We really loved the festive decorations, which created an inviting atmosphere from the moment we entered the hotel.

The lobby bar was another space we enjoyed. It felt like a great spot to unwind after spending time outside in the cold, and it complemented the festive experience that brought us to Budapest in the first place.

4. Rooftop Bar: A View of the Basilica and the Square

One of our favourite features was the rooftop bar overlooking St. Stephen’s Basilica and the square. Seeing the Christmas market from above added another perspective to the celebrations unfolding just outside the hotel.

For couples visiting Budapest in December, this was one of the most memorable parts of the property. Check the hotel’s current rooftop opening arrangements when planning a visit.

5. Food and Room Service: Good, but Not Outstanding

We tried the hotel’s food and also ordered room service. The food was good enough, but it did not particularly impress us. It was pleasant rather than exceptional, and certainly not the reason we would choose to return.

With so many dining options in central Budapest, we would prioritise this hotel’s location and festive atmosphere over its food offering.

6. A Service Issue — and a Thoughtful Response at Checkout

The minibar issue remained unresolved even after we had mentioned it at reception. However, at checkout the manager asked how our stay had been, and we explained what had happened.

The manager handled the feedback very well and, as a gesture to make up for the inconvenience, removed our room-service charges from the bill. We appreciated this response. It did not change the fact that the problem could have been fixed earlier, but it showed a willingness to listen and take responsibility.

7. Is Radisson Collection Hotel, Basilica Budapest Worth It for Couples?

For a three-day Budapest Christmas getaway, the location alone is a compelling reason to consider this hotel. We loved being able to step directly into the Christmas market, return to a spacious room with a comfortable bed, admire the festive lobby and enjoy the views from the rooftop.

The food was fairly average in our experience, and the minibar issue should have been resolved sooner. Nevertheless, the way the manager responded at the end of our stay left us with a positive final impression.

Our DuoEscape verdict: a lovely base for couples who want to be at the heart of Budapest’s Christmas celebrations, especially if rooftop views, cosy interiors and immediate access to the festive square are high on their list. The atmosphere was the standout; some service details could be improved.

Radisson Collection Hotel, Basilica Budapest FAQ

Is the hotel close to Budapest’s Christmas market?

Yes. During our December 2025 stay, the Christmas market at St. Stephen’s Basilica was immediately outside, so we could enjoy it day and night.

Is it a good hotel for a romantic winter city break?

We think so. Its central location, festive decorations, comfortable accommodation and rooftop views were well suited to our three-day stay as a couple.

Does it have a rooftop bar?

Yes. We especially liked the views towards the Basilica and the Christmas market square.

How was the food and room service?

We found the food satisfactory but not particularly memorable. The hotel offered room service, and the manager later waived our room-service charges as compensation for an unresolved minibar issue.

Would we stay again?

We would consider returning for the unbeatable Christmas-market location and the rooftop, while hoping for more consistent attention to the smaller service details.

This review is based on our personal three-day stay in December 2025. Amenities, services and seasonal arrangements may change.
