Niva Dhigali Maldives feels immediately different from many island resorts because the landscape still does most of the talking. Set in the Raa Atoll, the resort combines a crystal-clear lagoon, dense tropical vegetation and a lively house reef with a relaxed premium all-inclusive concept.

For couples, that balance is one of its biggest strengths. You can spend the morning snorkelling straight from the island, slow down over lunch by the sea and finish the day at Haali Bar for sunset. In this Niva Dhigali Maldives review, we cover the arrival, island atmosphere, villas, dining, all-inclusive experience, spa and the activities that make the resort worth considering for a Maldives escape.

1. Arrival, Seaplane & Airport Lounge

Niva Dhigali Maldives is located in the Raa Atoll and is normally reached from Velana International Airport by seaplane, with the flight taking around 45 minutes. After check-in, guests transfer to the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal, where Niva Dhigali currently directs guests to the Neeri Lounge before the flight to the island.

The lounge is a much better visual fit for this part of the journey than resort photography: it is where the Maldives experience really starts to shift from airport mode to island mode. From there, the seaplane ride gives you the first aerial views of the atolls before landing at Niva Dhigali. You can also read more about the transfer process on the Trans Maldivian Airways journey page.

2. Niva Dhigali Maldives Island Vibe

One of the things we like most about Niva Dhigali Maldives is how much of the island still feels naturally green. The centre is covered in dense tropical vegetation, while the shoreline opens onto wide stretches of sand and clear lagoon water.

The house reef is another major advantage. It can be explored directly from the island, with tropical fish, turtles and reef sharks among the marine life you may encounter. For sunset, Haali Bar at the western end of the island is one of the best places to slow down with a drink and watch the colours change over the water.

3. Niva Dhigali Maldives Villas & Suites

Niva Dhigali Maldives offers a wide range of villa categories, from beach accommodation hidden among the vegetation to overwater villas and pool options facing the lagoon. That variety makes it easy to choose between a more private beach experience and the classic overwater stay.

For couples, the choice really comes down to how you want your days to feel. A beach villa gives you sand and greenery just outside the door, while a water villa puts the lagoon at the centre of the experience. If your stay is long enough, splitting the trip between the two is a great way to experience both sides of the island.

Beach Villa

The beach villas sit close to the shoreline and are surrounded by tropical vegetation, which gives them a sense of privacy without feeling cut off from the island. The design is clean and contemporary, with natural materials and large openings that keep the connection with the outdoors.

This is the option we would choose if waking up and walking straight onto the sand matters most. There are also beach categories with private pools for couples who want extra privacy without giving up direct access to the ocean.

Water Villa

The water villas deliver the classic Maldives experience: open lagoon views, direct access to the sea and the feeling of being surrounded by water from the moment you wake up. The interiors stay deliberately understated so that the view remains the focus.

If swimming and snorkelling are a big part of your trip, stepping straight from the deck into the lagoon is hard to beat. Niva Dhigali also offers lagoon villas with private pools, which add another level of privacy for couples looking for a more secluded stay.

4. Dining at Niva Dhigali Maldives

The Café – one of our favourite spots

One place we kept coming back to was The Café. It is more than a quick coffee stop: during our stay they served very good espresso-based coffee, toasted sandwiches, pastries, cookies, cakes, ice cream and other light bites. What stood out most to us was the quality of the coffee. A genuinely good, specialty-style coffee experience is still surprisingly rare at many all-inclusive island resorts, so this became one of those small details we really appreciated.

Dining is one of the strongest parts of Niva Dhigali Maldives, especially if you choose the Premium All-Inclusive plan. Capers is the main oceanside restaurant, serving international and Maldivian dishes through themed buffets and live cooking stations.

Beyond that, Jade focuses on contemporary Pan-Asian food, Battuta brings together flavours inspired by the historic Spice Route, and Faru serves Mediterranean-style dishes close to the sea. There is also a casual wood-fired Pizzeria and destination dining for private meals on the beach. You can check the latest restaurant details on the official Niva Dhigali dining page.

5. Niva Dhigali Maldives Premium All-Inclusive

The Premium All-Inclusive concept is one of the main reasons Niva Dhigali stands out. It is designed to give guests more freedom across the island rather than limiting every meal to a single buffet restaurant.

The Premium All-Inclusive package goes well beyond meals and drinks. At the time of our stay, it included the dine-around concept across the resort’s restaurants, café, pizzeria and bars, premium wines and spirits, and a villa minibar replenished daily. On the activity side, guests also receive snorkelling equipment, non-motorised water sports such as kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, one Glass Bottom Boat excursion, plus a choice between a Dolphin Cruise and a Sunset Cruise. Access to the fitness centre, indoor games, group yoga and fitness activities, cultural programmes, movies under the stars and live entertainment are also part of the concept.

We tried the Glass Bottom Boat excursion ourselves. It is a nice idea, especially if you want to look at the reef without getting into the water, but on our trip we honestly did not see very much marine life through the glass. The boat movement can also be quite noticeable, so if you are prone to seasickness this particular excursion may be less enjoyable. We would still take advantage of it because it is included, but if we had to prioritise, we would choose snorkelling or the Dolphin/Sunset Cruise first.

As always, we recommend checking the exact Premium All-Inclusive inclusions for your travel dates, as resort programmes can change.

6. Niva Dhigali Maldives Spa & Wellness

The spa at Niva Dhigali adds a quieter layer to the island experience. Treatments range from restorative massages to facials and wellness rituals, making it an easy place to spend an afternoon after a few active days in the sun.

What works well is that wellness is not treated as something completely separate from the rest of the resort. Yoga, stretching and movement sessions are also part of the wider experience, so couples can mix spa time with more active days without turning the holiday into a strict wellness retreat.

7. Snorkeling, House Reef & Activities

Jungle Walk and the island’s natural side

One of the details we liked most about Dhigali is how much of the island still feels genuinely natural. A large part of the original tropical vegetation has been preserved, and the Jungle Walk takes you through a dense, largely untouched part of the island along shaded paths beneath the canopy. It is a lovely contrast to the beach and lagoon and makes the resort feel more like a real Maldivian island than a property landscaped from scratch.

Getting around with the NIVA Dhigali App

A very useful thing to do as soon as you arrive is install the NIVA Dhigali App. It becomes your pocket guide to the island: you can explore the resort map, check restaurants and facilities, see activity information and make selected bookings directly from your phone. During our stay, one feature we found especially useful was the buggy view on the map. We could see where the electric buggies were on the island, so when we did not feel like walking barefoot from one side of the island to the other, we had a much better idea of when one was approaching instead of simply waiting at a stop. The official island map also shows the restaurants, facilities, Jungle Walk and buggy stops.

Movie nights under the stars

One of our favourite evenings at Niva Dhigali was also one of the simplest. After sunset, watching a movie on the beach with the sound of the ocean in the background, a cocktail in hand and freshly popped popcorn made for a genuinely special atmosphere. It is the kind of small included experience that can easily become one of the memories you remember most from the stay.

The house reef is one of the biggest reasons to consider Niva Dhigali Maldives if you enjoy being in the water. Complimentary snorkelling gear is available, and the reef can be explored from the island. Guided house-reef sessions and excursions to see turtles, manta rays and dolphins are also available.

There is plenty to do above the water as well, including stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking, windsurfing and other water sports. Raa Atoll also offers excellent diving, with PADI-led trips to deeper reefs and thilas. The result is a resort that works well whether you want a very slow honeymoon or a holiday with something different to do each day.

8. Is Niva Dhigali Maldives Worth It for Couples?

For couples who want a resort that feels tropical and natural without giving up dining choice or a polished all-inclusive experience, Niva Dhigali Maldives is a very strong option. The island is large enough to explore, yet it still feels easy to move between the beach, reef, restaurants and sunset spots.

We would particularly recommend it to couples who value snorkelling, a good choice of restaurants and the flexibility of choosing between beach and overwater accommodation. It also fits naturally into a honeymoon itinerary because you can be as active or as relaxed as you want without leaving the island.
